How can i merge .mkv.001 , .mkv.002 etc into single .mkv file?

the movies downloaded as .mkv from fileserve etc come in parts with extension .mkv.001 .mkv.002 what should i do to make it into one. the player shows the time for the full movie but stops when it reaches end of first file. renaming the file extension as.mkv doesnt work.....
