Quicky on cuts/swelling?

A small cut with that amount of swelling warrants suspecting a puncture wound, and also may have a foreign body embedded in it. Your vet should be called for advice asap.. Your horse may also need a tetanus booster. I would withhold application of any treatments until you speak with the vet.
