Why can't I transfer mp3 files from flashdrive to desktop to burn a CD?

I have music on my laptop and added it to my flashdrive to put onto my desktop but I keep getting an error "Windows Media cannot find the file. If you are trying to play, burn, or sync an item that is in your library, the item might point to a file that has been moved, renamed, or deleted." Anybody knows what's going on?
